Boston Babydolls Named Resident Theatre Company at Cambridge YMCA Theatre
Classic burlesque troupe to produce regular shows in historic setting

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Feb. 7, 2011 – The Boston Babydolls Burlesque Troupe, which produces live theatrical performances inspired by classic burlesque, has been named Theater Company in Residence at The Cambridge YMCA Theatre in Central Square. "This is a major step forward for our troupe, and we are delighted and honored that The Cambridge YMCA has invited us to be one of its resident theater companies," said Miss Mina Murray, Founding Artistic Director of The Boston Babydolls. "We look forward to bringing more attention to this beautiful little theatre and sharing in the development their already excellent facilities."

Cambridge YMCA Theatre Manager and Comptroller Frank Stevens said that having The Boston Babydolls as a resident company will enrich the theatre’s cultural life and broaden its appeal, while providing internship opportunities for local residents interested in theatre production and management. "The Boston Babydolls are a first-rate theater company that has made a significant contribution to the arts in a very short time," said Stevens. "Their mission to re-create the glamour and allure of classic burlesque is a perfect fit for our Victorian theatre."

“I have a long history with this theatre,” said Boston Babydolls impresario, Scratch. “I produced one of the first performances after it was renovated in 2001 and fell in love with it. The first major Boston Babydolls show, Out for Blood, was staged there for Halloween 2005. I’m thrilled to have the years of ‘dating’ turn into a ‘marriage’.” he joked.

The Boston Babydolls next production, Mr. Cupid’s House of Love, is scheduled for March 11-12, 2011 at The YMCA Theatre. Set in New Orleans, a portion of the ticket sales from Mr. Cupid’s… will be donated to Animal Rescue New Orleans, a nonprofit grassroots volunteer organization created and dedicated to the rescue and aid of abandoned and homeless animals in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to offering performances, The Boston Babydolls teach workshops and classes through their educational arm, The Boston Academy of Burlesque Education, at their studio in Allston, MA. In spring 2011, The Boston Babydolls will be participating in the fifth annual Great Burlesque Exposition and traveling to New Orleans for a series of performances there.
